Beautiful 3 weight Biedermeier Vienna Regulator. This ca. 1845 Vienna regulator is of classic design and proportions with beautiful “Gesso” trim. A rare Austrian made, Biedermeier style Vienna Regulator with brass, weights, and pendulum bob .
The movement is unsigned and was completely overhauled in 2019. It is in great condition. This clock is the more desirable “long drop”, 72 beat, regulator. This clock strikes on a coiled gong every 15 minutes in a Grand Sonnerie striking sequence.
The clock case looks to me to be Rosewood. It has the sought after "Satin Banding" around the glass edges. It has quite a lot of “Gesso” trim. I believe that the finish is pretty much original, just cleaned up. I am always amazed at how these old shellac finishes can usually be brought back to a pristine condition. It measures approximately 52 inches long by 14 inches wide at it's widest point. The pictures tell the story, just look below!
Caveats: The crown and bottom “gesso” are very proper replacements. There is significant damage around to the dial the winding holes, repaired but noticeable up close. The backboard has been replaced (not by me) although I believe the veneer and banding are original.
This clock is really terrific , it runs well and keeps good time. This clock would be a wonderful addition to your collection.
